Te Tīmatanga is a program to help grow and shape queer artists in Aotearoa each year. “Shallow Waters” is an expression of Takatāpui joy, that showcases what the human body is capable of. Kiriana hopes to inspire their community by demonstrating the art form as an accessible opportunity to explore body sovereignty. Through Te Tīmatanga, “Shallow Waters” aspires to drive Rangatahi Takatāpui participation in circus.

Project brief
Challenges
Auckland Pride approached Cuetone needing a team that honoured Whānau-oriented working protocols, as well as a co-partner that would be able to work with both the Auckland Pride team and the artist to ensure the capturing and preservation of the artform was respected and elevated.
Solutions
Cuetone Media worked together with Hāmiora and the team at Auckland Pride alongside Cuetone's Ngāti Wai director Holly Bidwell to thread a collaboration of trust and belonging, to ensure our delivery would honour Kiriana and her artform
Results
Through the creation and distribution of this work, Kiriana was able to use this piece as an attribute and place at The National Centre for Circus Arts in London, UK; one of the best circus training spaces in the world.

“We really value what you offer our space and are grateful to have you as part of the whānau.”
Hāmiora Bailey, Executive Director, Auckland Pride
